Bazaar Registration About to Open…Registration for this year's Last-Minute Non-Profit Stocking-Stuffer Bazaar will open some time between now and Monday, October 6. When the Registration opens, it is on a First-Pay/First-Served basis. Registration Application and Information Links will ONLY be sent this year to our Vendor Email Notification List. In order to receive notification, you MUST be on our Vendor Email Notification List, otherwise you won't know where to find the registration website (it changes each year). If there's any doubt as to whether we have the appropriate contact person for your agency on our notification list, go to www.stocking-stuffer-bazaar.com/vendors.htm NOW and provide your agency name and contact email address. Booth space sells out quickly - don't be left out! The Bazaar will occur Saturday, December 20 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Prescott Activity Center on Gurley. Fifty-four nonprofit agencies will sell new gifts, crafts, baked goods and raffle chances, and hand out literature about their organizations. Most items will be priced under $20, offering a great opportunity for the community to stock up on inexpensive gifts for year-round gift-giving, while supporting your agencies. You keep the proceeds from your sales on the day of the event, while proceeds from the booth rental fees go to our sponsoring agency, the Yavapai County Jeep Posse. My husband, Don, and I organize and underwrite the event each year as our gift to the community. Don and I appreciate the support of everyone who participates, either as a vendor or shopper! ResourcesLOW VISION CONFIDENT LIVING COURSE, a series of 10 classes for people with vision loss, will be jointly presented by Neighbor to Neighbor of Prescott Valley and their sister organization in Prescott, People Who Care. The course is funded by a grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Prescott and will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Long Look Drive in Prescott Valley each Thursday from 12-1:30 p.m. starting October 2. Topics include medical conditions causing low vision, emotional aspects of vision loss, community resources, treatment alternatives, mobility training, examinations and aides, and suggestions/help with activities of daily living. CDBG GRANTS - Yavapai County is expected to receive approximately $1,111,000 in FY09 federal Community Development Block Grant funds from the Arizona Dept of Housing and will hold two public hearings to obtain input on potential projects. HACIENDA DE LOS MILAGROS, located in Chino Valley, is a sanctuary for animals and is in need of help! Believing that all animals deserve quality of life, the agency has made a commitment to provide a safe and nurturing lifetime home for abused and rescued animals. Most of the animals are wild burros and horses. Since the majority have experienced repeated trauma, they are not adopted out. The agency is also committed to educate the public regarding the rights of all animals. The organization has experienced severe financial setbacks this year, but recently received two matching grants that can help turn things around. The first is for $20,000 from the Selz Foundation in NYC for first-time donors, and the second is for $10,000 from RFS Social Finance in San Francisco for new or repeat donors. (Hands-on Equine Assisted Riding Therapy) is selling tickets to the Season Opener of the Arizona Sundogs, to occur Friday, Oct 17 at 7:05 p.m. at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. The game is anticipated to be sold out. HWH, which provides therapeutic riding for disabled children and adults, is selling tickets for $15, with $5 of the proceeds going to their organization. Seats are in Section 210 and there are wheelchair accessible seats available. Horses with H.E.A.R.T. will also be the nonprofit beneficiary of the new 50/50 draw program (a raffle for cash). They'll be selling raffle tickets at the game, with half the proceeds going to the winning ticket holder and the other half to the agency. OPEN DOOR, an outreach program of the Coalition for Compassion and Justice in Prescott, will hold their annual Warm for Winter distribution of winter clothing and related items October 18 from 10-4 at the Miller Valley Elementary School Cafeteria. The items are intended to help our Prescott neighbors, young and old, get through the winter months. Donations are currently being sought of new and gently used winter clothing including sweaters, coats, gloves, hats, scarves, sweatshirts, sweat pants and heavy socks. Also being collected are sleeping bags, blankets and small tents. Donations can be taken to Open Door, 505 W. Gurley (within Prescott United Methodist Church) on Tues, Wed or Thurs from 9-noon, or brought to the church office other weekday hours. Donations of cash will be used to purchase new items. PRESCOTT FINE ARTS ASSOCIATION (PFAA) and the West Yavapai Guidance Clinic Foundation will co-sponsor the Prescott Ghost Talk, formerly Ghost Walk, a spooky, scary, and entertaining evening of ghostly folklore, at the PFAA Theatre at the corner of Marina and Willis Streets on Saturday, Oct 25. There will be four seatings: 6, 7, 8 and 9 pm. Cost: $10 per seat, with all proceeds benefiting the two nonprofits. SHARLOT HALL MUSEUM will celebrate their 80th anniversary with a 1928 baseball exhibition game Sunday, Oct 26 beginning at 1 p.m. at Ken Lindley Field, 702 E Gurley Street in Prescott. A pair of retro Arizona baseball teams include the Phoenix Senators vs the Bisbee Bees. Both teams are modeled after actual minor league teams -- the Senators began playing in 1915 and the Bees in 1928. Both are non-profit groups of vintage baseball players who have obtained vintage-style uniforms and equipment, including old-style bats, balls and gloves. Admission is by donation.
